[Thought] Get EVERYONE Involved in STEAM Activities

Updated: Mar 22, 2021

Last year in November, I managed to run a STEAM night for THS. Basically, this is a tradition in our school. We do it every year in STEAM month (November) and offer all students opportunities have a taste of STEAM activities.

Here is the commercial before STEAM night with the explanation of STEAM night. This video is made by G6 students and we planned the whole video together with the knowledge of Green Screen.

This year's theme is sustainability - to match the the call of SDGs from UN. We called it "GO GREEN". According to each floor's specialities, all teachers attended and designed various activities.

Here is the chart of activities of that night.

To make the night more unique, our Art teacher and I designed our STEAM night logos. Also, I found vendors to customize badges and shopping bags.

Okay, here's the scheme how it worked.

Basically, all students were welcomed to the night. Once they go through activities on one floor, they'll get a stamp on their arms - which shows that they finish visiting this floor. When students collect all stamps, they will be rewarded with the badge and shopping bag.

I wanna deliver the idea to students - sustainability is not a concept that you learn during one night, we need to take actions in our everyday life. That's why I came up with the idea of shopping bags.

To make sure every floor has people volume, I assigned floor person to control the number of visitors. Also, I assigned all staff to different floors to ensure all activities could run smoothly.

Luckily, we got the most students than the past 3 years that night. All kids really enjoyed all activities. Here is the video of that night.

Personally, I think that was a wonderful experience. I learnt a lot about activities management and how to balance all stuff. Still a long way to go, but I think next time, I still wanna make contribution to it!
